Frame Memory
Does a digital photo frame require that the memory stick stay in the frame the entire time?
If so, then what is the purpose of this? I was thinking of getting this as a gift and if the card always has to be in the frame, then I think this is a stupid idea. A camera does the same thing then.
With a digital photo frame, you usually have several options available to store and view photos. They will also play music files, so you can view a slideshow or movie with a soundtrack playing. A digital camera can’t really do this.
Most (but not all) frames have a small amount of internal memory, so you can connect the frame to your PC via USB , and transfer photos that way. But the amount of photos or movies you can display is limited.
Or you can use a USB flash drive to view photos. It just plugs into the frame.
Some frames also allow direct camera to frame connection, without the need for a PC.
Or you can insert your memory card to view photos. Using a memory card is not a stupid idea because you can literally display as many photos/movies as you like (depending on the card’s capacity). Memory cards are dirt cheap, so many people just buy a card to keep in the frame, until they wish to add or change the photos.
And most photo frames accept different types of memory card, so people with different cards can share their photos.
Of course a camera does the same thing in regards to displaying photos…but you can’t compare it’s tiny 2.5″-3″ LCD screen to the much larger screen of a digital photo frame which is available in varying sizes of 6″, 7″, 8″ up to 12″ or more.
