Will eyeglasses disqualify me for higher positions in law enforcement?
I was wondering if wearing eyeglasses will automatically disqualify you for things such as FBI work or becoming a detective in a police department.
I know the FBI says that Lasik surgery is acceptable after a 3 month waiting period, but are eyeglasses acceptable or not?
Their website doesn’t seem to touch on the subject.
Someone with a solid answer would be appreciated.
I will pick best answer if someone can answer this with a good source.
And for those that think it’s discriminate or that it’s a dumb question, they will not allow you to wear contacts under most conditions.
Which is what sparks the glasses question.
They also say you need at least 20/20 in one eye and at least 20/40 in the other, I wanted to make sure that this was corrected or uncorrected.
Most law enforcement agencies require uncorrected vision (without glasses) to be no greater than 20/60.
The FBI requires uncorrected vision no greater than 20/200, which is very lenient.
You can apply if you have documentation of soft contact lens use for over 1 year with no significant problems or adverse effects. And the waiting period ofter lasik is 6 months.
