I’m having frame rate problems with Grand Theft Auto III on my PC.?
PC Details :
Intel D865 Perl
Intel Pentium (4) CPU 2.80GHz (2 CPU)
1022MB RAM (400Mhz)
250Gb HDD
RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB (400Mhz)
Most of the time the game plays like a charm even on maximum detail. However sometimes the game will slow to a crawl like a tortoise through treacle. Changing all the detail settings to minimum and screen resolution to lowest doesn’t make any difference.
I’m running the latest version of Windows XP Home with the latest patch for the game and most recent issue of Direct X 9.0c.
Any suggestions?

Although I forgot to add that my machine is a fresh install, so possibly the registry would be full of kludge yet?
I’m also using Firefox as my browser.
yes turn off all your anti virus/spyware as this probably making intermittent checks which are slowing your pc also check your registry and clean it as its probably full of crap and clean your cache and any temp internet files before starting the game
